This product is a must for heavy track driving users. Track driving exposes your gears to a lot of stress. Increasing the durability of the gears directly links to the reliability of your transmission. After extensive analysis, Spoon Sports redesigned the gears from the ground up, looking into material, hardness and geometry for significantly improved durability.
Cutting the gears during development, we analysed surface and core hardness of the gears, studying the effective hardness layers as well as its material composition.
As a result, Spoon Sports were able to find the optimal material balance of hardness and toughness. Further computer analysis of the gears revealed ways to increase the modular strength of the gears and its gear teeth.
Overall, Spoon Sports were able to improve the bending fatigue strength by a factor of 30,000 and the pitching durability by 4 times.
The development of the gears began from a bitter experience of blowing the transmission twice during the 24-hour endurance race at Fuji Speedway. R&D began immediately after the troubled race, utilizing the last 3 races of the season to evaluate the shifting feel and durability. The newly designed gears were raced and tested for over 3,500km without any issues. The following season, we were able to run the 24 hours endurance race at Fuji Speedway trouble-free, allowing us to feel confident to offer this product to our customers.
